The Body That Heals Itself

happy woman with arms out in mountainsOne of Dr. Mike’s favorite chiropractic quotes is from BJ Palmer, “Have you more faith in a knife or a spoonful of medicine than in the innate power that animates the internal living world?

The name of our clinic is ADIO which stands for Above Down Inside Out. It’s how the body heals. The nervous system which consists of the brain, spinal cord and nerves control everything in the human body. When it comes to the spine, the 24 movable segments are protecting that lifeline between the brain and the body.

The Importance of Spinal Health

It’s no secret that the health of the spine is incredibly important to the overall function within the body and the body’s ability to heal itself. Even Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine, said, “Look well to the spine for the cause of disease.” Adjusting the spine improves overall function within the body.

Dr. Mike tells people, “Your heart is beating, your lungs are breathing and your stomach is digesting food-are you having to tell it to do those things?” That popular brand of triple antibiotic ointment doesn’t heal the cut; your body does. The cast doesn’t heal your broken arm-your body does. The cast just sets it where it needs to go.

We want to empower people to have more faith in their body’s innate ability to heal!

The Problem With Medication

It’s been said that when people take medication they have to heal twice- once from the disease or sickness, they’re taking medication for and secondly is to heal from the medication itself. Most medications come with a host of adverse side effects.

We’ve made it our mission to teach people about this principle of healing. Our bodies only heal one way-ADIO. We’re such an outside-in culture/society; we take a pill for every ill. Your body can actually heal most things. Of course, there’s a time and place for drugs and surgery, but it shouldn’t automatically be the first go-to.

Healing Is a Process

At ADIO Health Chiropractic, we also want you to know that healing is a process. It’s time and repetition. Think about going to the gym to get in shape. You probably won’t get in shape going to the gym once every two weeks. The more you go to work out the better in shape you will get and faster. The same is true with healing; the more you create good healthy habits in your everyday lifestyle then your body will be to function and heal as it is designed to.

These healthy habits include getting adjusted on a weekly basis, getting good nightly sleep, working out and moving your body daily, eating nutrient-dense foods, implementing a daily gratitude and mindset practice, and destressing and unplugging from technology when able to.

Why Movement & Good Nutrition Are Vital

When it comes to spinal health, motion is lotion. Our bodies are designed to move-life is motion! The late Roger Sperry, who was a neuropsychologist and neurobiologist, won a Nobel Prize for brain research back in the 60s. He showed that 90% of the nutrition to the brain comes from the movement of the spine. The more movement you’re creating within the spinal column the more it’s feeding the brain highly beneficial input.

We’re seeing with our older generation an increase in neurodegenerative disorders including Alzheimer’s and dementia. If you look at their lifestyle it’s typically not supporting health but supporting more sickness and disease due to being sedentary. Many older Americans aren’t moving much and they are likely eating inflammatory foods. Consider this: food can be a very powerful medicine or a very powerful poison.

What Are Your Goals for Health?

You might think most people see a chiropractor for the pain. It’s not actually the pain for which they’re seeking help but because the pain is keeping them from doing something in their life that they want to do again – we call it the Life Effect. We want to know what those things are. For example, is pain keeping you from playing with your kids or grandkids? Perhaps pain is preventing you from enjoying a weekly round of golf.

We want to know what those things are so we can work toward meeting those goals. Then there’s the purpose behind you getting adjusted aside from just feeling better.

Getting to the Root

Pain is a big driver for people but people can get out of pain easily and cheaply by just taking aspirin. But we know that’s not getting to the root cause of the problem. That approach is just putting a bandage on a symptom and not good for your liver or kidneys. We want to help you experience true healing and robust health!
